How to play Ludo

Ludo is a race around the board. Move all four tokens from your yard, around the track and into your home column before anybody else does.

Before you start

  • Choose a colour. Standard Ludo supports two to four players.
  • Put your four tokens in the matching corner yard.
  • Agree who rolls first; the highest roll is a simple option.

Your first move

In the common version, a token leaves its yard only when you roll a six. Put it on your colour’s starting square, then move that token or another active token by the number you roll.

What happens on a turn?

  1. Roll the die.
  2. Choose one legal token to move clockwise.
  3. Landing on a lone opponent token outside a safe square captures it and sends it back to that player’s yard.
  4. When a token completes the track, move it up your colour’s home column with an exact roll.

Friendly reminder: families and apps sometimes use different house rules for extra rolls after a six, blockades or the exact finish. Agree those before the game begins.
