LEARN LUDO
Ludo words you will hear at the table
You do not need special vocabulary to enjoy Ludo, but these words make a quick rule discussion much easier.
Yard
The coloured corner where your tokens wait before they enter the board.
Token or piece
One of the counters a player moves around the board. Most standard games give each player four.
Start square
The first square a token occupies when it leaves its yard. It is often colour-marked and may be safe.
Safe square
A specially marked square where a token is normally protected from capture. Always check the board’s own markings.
Capture
Landing exactly on an opponent’s lone token on an ordinary track square, sending that token back to its yard.
Blockade
A house-rule term for two same-colour tokens sharing a square. Groups differ on whether a blockade is allowed and whether other tokens may pass it.
Exact finish
The rule that says a token needs the precise roll required to reach the centre. Use the pre-game checklist for variations your group should agree on.
